As it's only a day or so until New Year's Eve, and I shall most likely be busy that day, I have decided to post my completed list of books I read in 2012 now.
It turned out that I read many more books than I had originally planned and the whole list changed in exactly which books I would read. If you want to refresh your memory as to which books I originally intended to read this year, you can check out the post here. I must say some of the books stayed the same, but many left and more came in. I originally had 25 books picked out, and it expanded to 50!
Now, before I begin the list, I must give you a little bit of a key:

I've been wondering about Austenland since there's news of a film being made of the book. What exactly made you stop reading it?
Oooh! You read 'The Invention of Hugo Cabret'! Is it good? My sister and I just watched the Hugo movie and it was excellent. Have you seen it?

I've put together reading lists before and they haven't worked out very well. I was pleased though to have read most of the books I got for Christmas last year. I think I'm going to steal your idea of posting a list of the books I read in 2012. :)
Ah! How soon they forget! Remember? I own the DVD of Hugo. ;-)
And reading the book was just like watching the movie. There were just a couple somewhat more minor changes from book to movie, but nothing that ruined it- which is refreshing. I highly recommend reading it. It's very big, but it is told half in pictures and half in words, so it actually only took me a day or so to read it. Same with Wonderstruck, which I also recommend.
As for Austenland... for one I was getting bored, as I often do with Shannon Hale, and yet I keep being determined to read her. So, on top of a bit of worry over something at the beginning of the book (can't really remember what it was now), I checked out some stuff toward the end as I tend to do with a book I am bored with to see if I want to keep reading it or not. What I found there was that one of the characters was of a perverted immoral lifestyle- if you know what I mean. That just clenched it for me. Sometimes, like with RTD era Who, I'm able to set it aside and enjoy the rest, but other times, like with Moffat era Who, it's too much out there and I can't. With Austenland, I was so bored I didn't even bother finding out which way it would have been- it just made it not worth continuing on, for me. I do wonder about the movie, though. If they leave that little tidbit out, I would like to see it and see if I like the movie better.
And go ahead and steal the list idea. I assure you, I was not the first to do it. ;-)
What was your objection to The Night Circus?
The Night Circus was another mixture of boredom and objection. While the imagery was gorgeous, to me, the story just dragged. Plus, I had a personal objection to the constant use of tarot cards. A couple time in the book, I can pass over, but, for me, they were used so much it just started to bug me spiritually.
Now, it may not for you, same as it did not for my mom, but I couldn't take it any more.
